On Thursday evening, Vice President Kamala Harris aimed to establish her identity as a candidate for unity, marking a historic moment as the first Black woman and the first Asian American individual to receive a major party’s presidential nomination. Her address, delivered on the concluding night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, occurred slightly more than a month following the commencement of her presidential campaign.

“The path that led me here in recent weeks was no doubt unexpected,” Harris said during arguably the most important night of her political career so far. “But I’m no stranger to unlikely journeys.”
