Canada Rail Strick, The union has declared that its members will initiate Canada Rail strike at 10 am ET on Monday. This announcement comes in the wake of CN’s decision to end the lockout, a move prompted by the federal government’s intervention to impose binding arbitration in the ongoing labor conflict. TCRC President Paul Boucher remarked, “The federal government’s choice to circumvent the collective bargaining process and enforce binding arbitration undermines the fundamental framework that labor unions depend on to improve wages and working conditions for all Canadians. Collective bargaining is also the primary avenue through which our union promotes rail safety—issues that are far more critical than immediate economic concerns.” The statement also noted that the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) has not yet provided a definitive ruling on the enforcement of binding arbitration or the termination of any work stoppage. In a statement issued on Thursday, CN stated, “While we await the formal directive from the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB), the Company has chosen to make this decision to aid in the recovery of the economy.” The union representing railway employees has indicated that it is considering options to challenge the federal government‘s request for the Canada Industrial Relations Board to implement final, binding arbitration to resolve the shutdown affecting both of Canada’s largest railways. In Ottawa, shortly after thousands of unionized workers at the nation’s two major railway companies were locked out, Labour Minister Steve MacKinnon announced his plan to exercise his authority under the Canada Labour Code to “ensure industrial peace” by imposing final, binding arbitration. Read more…..
